Aspen Lake

As a child I have always loved the water and instilled the love of it to my nephews and my children. One day when my nephew was about four years old I took him to a little lake in Lathrop, Missouri. He loved to swim and fish. This day was a little chilly so we decided to fish. He liked putting bread on a hook and catching Blue Gill. I cannot tell you how many times I told him not to get to close to the edge. He would always tell me “it is okay I will not fall in!” I know “Famous last words” as luck would have it I hooked a catfish and was in the process of reeling it in when I suddenly heard a loud splash! Wee!!! To no surprise he had fallen in! Which left me with the dilemma of which to pull in first, my fish or the kid. Being the good Aunt I am I rescued the kid and lost the fish. When I pulled him up out of the muck his beautiful blonde head was now a dripping muddy mess. He was so happy that he caught a half pound blue gill he did not even realize what a mess he was. He was so proud of his fish we had to take it home and put it in the bathtub. We did this so he could show everyone what a great fisherman he was. I also took pictures of him and the fish! Although you had to look real close to see where his head was as it was still muddy! He would not let me clean him up until we had the pictures and the fish in the tub.  To this day he loves to go fishing and is a little better about staying away from the edge on chilly days!!
